Lucknow is arguably the most beautiful city in Uttar Pradesh, rich in history, culture, food and architectural splendour. Yet many of its historic landmarks, monuments, and streets have fallen into neglect. Even those that are maintained often suffer from mismanagement, lacking the thoughtful care needed to truly preserve the city's heritage. Others are quietly fading away in between new buildings, vehicles, all kinds of pollution and a disinterest from both locals and officials.
I grew up here, and it’s my other hometown. Now, as I wander its streets with a camera in hand, I find myself discovering faces and places I had never noticed before. That’s the beauty of it: a camera doesn’t just show you new sights- it takes you somewhere unfamiliar, sometimes physically, and if you're open to it, even spiritually.
Through this series, I hope to document the city and its people as a whole- to capture what remains, what’s changing, and what still endures. In doing so, I’m getting to know it in a new way like someone returning to their childhood home and noticing, the delicate patterns in the windowpanes, the distinct scent of the living room, and the crack in the ceiling that now resembles a face- left wondering: how did I miss this?
